Privacy
Joelu is built for young children. We collect as little as possible, show no ads and never sell data. Below you can read exactly what we store, why, where it lives and what your rights are.
Who we are
Joelu is a product of MomPlan, a sole proprietorship registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) under number 99587513. MomPlan (“we”) is the controller for personal data processed in the Joelu app and on joelu.nl and joelu.life. For any privacy question, reach us at support@joelu.life; our registered address is available on request from the Chamber of Commerce or from us by e-mail.
Built for children, managed by parents
Joelu is made for children aged 4 to 7, but the account always belongs to a parent or guardian. Only a parent can create an account, add child profiles and make purchases — that part sits behind a parental gate. By creating a child profile, the parent consents to the limited data it needs (GDPR Article 8 and the US COPPA rules). Children cannot chat, contact anyone or share anything from the app without passing the parental gate. We never knowingly collect more data about a child than listed below.
What we store
From the parent: a name and email address for the account, plus the purchase status of Joelu Plus. Per child: a first name (a nickname works just as well), the chosen school year and their learning progress. Nothing else — no date of birth, no address, no phone number, no location, no photos. An account is not required to play; without one, everything stays on the device only.
What we use it for
To make the app work: your account, syncing progress between devices and delivering your purchase (performance of our contract). And to keep the service secure and prevent abuse (legitimate interest). We do not profile children, do not use their data for marketing, and never sell data.
Where it lives and for how long
On the device itself and, with an account, encrypted on European servers run by Google Firebase (Netherlands/Belgium region), tied only to your parent account. We keep data for as long as your account exists. Delete your account in the app and everything — including child profiles — is wiped from the cloud immediately; backup copies are gone within 30 days.
Who we share with
We share only what is technically needed, with processors bound by our instructions: Google Firebase (accounts, database and storage, in the EU), Apple and Google Play (payment handling; we never see your payment details), RevenueCat (purchase management; receives purchase receipts and your account identifier — a random string, never your name, e-mail address or your child’s name) and ElevenLabs (the read-aloud voice; receives only the game sentences to be spoken, without names or account data — lines containing your child’s name are spoken by the device itself). For processors outside the EU, the European Standard Contractual Clauses apply. The app contains no ad networks, no analytics services and no third-party trackers.
This website
joelu.life is a plain static website: no cookies, no analytics, no trackers and no ad networks. You can read the site without us recording anything about you. Only the standard server logs of our hosting provider (Google Cloud Run, EU) record technical data such as an IP address, needed for security and availability.
Your rights
You may access, correct, delete and export your data, and object to processing. Most of it you handle directly in the app: deleting your account and child profiles wipes everything, including from the cloud. For anything else, email support@joelu.life. Unhappy with how we handle it? You can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes
If this policy materially changes what we do with data, we announce it in the app and on this page before the change takes effect.
